In difficult times, children need support they can rely on. Our Individual Child Support program helps each child, regardless of their background, to unlock their potential through mentorship, tutoring, and sponsorship. Thanks to our team and donors, we see children thrive as they build trusting relationships, improve their education and start to succeed in life. The program continues to grow across Ukraine.
We are helping children who are displaced and separated from their parents in Dnipro, a region severely affected by war. In 2024, 47 children who experienced loss - some had to evacuate under fire - received vital support that goes beyond basic needs to include emotional, educational, legal and psychological aid. Thanks to our donors, children can have security and dreams for their future.

Today, we say goodbye to our dear colleague and friend, Hennadiy Melnuchyk. As he is laid to rest, we remember a man who was once an orphaned child, who became a father and a source of inspiration and strength at Care in Action. As a defender of his country Hennadiy still sent videos from the trenches to say “Every child must have a family. I know that. I want this for my country.”
Every month 400 children are using four creative spaces that Care in Action helped to equip in 2024. We transformed large, unused rooms in community-owned buildings into vibrant hubs for after-school activities, where children are engaging in activities that enhance their wellbeing and education.
At our Creative Hub over 200 children come for creative activities, mothers find a support network, and our Social Worker helps families find stability. As the war and the needs change, we adapt and respond, bringing happiness and hope for the future.
In December, our efforts brought smiles, warmth, and learning opportunities to over 700 children, as well as vital support to 20 foster care families preparing for winter power challenges.
This article highlights how our sponsorship program empowers children in Ukraine, enabling them to achieve beyond their expectations. Through Maksym’s journey to becoming an actor and the Veselovski sisters’ creative growth, it showcases how consistent support transforms lives, fostering talent, education, and hope for a brighter future.
We helped 90 young people this summer to build their resilience and learn life and work skills, as part of the STEP Program. Then in two adventure camps, 50 of these teenagers went kayaking, had art therapy and even helped with environment action. The two adventure camps were made possible by BILD hilft e.V. ‘Ein Herz für Kinder’. The new confidence and ideas continued when the teenagers went on to organise events in their own communities!
