Our volunteer tutors offer a lifeline for children’s education, helping children to prepare for exams, catch up on lessons missed and to believe they can do it! For the past four years, children in Ukraine have tried to continue their schooling amid the hardships of war. There are learning gaps because classes were interrupted by alarms, and loosing homes and stress makes it harder to focus. By supporting education we can build confidence for the future.
Even one year of regular tutoring can change a young person’s path, by helping them to pass exams and gain a place in higher education. The children we help have had challenges, like joining a foster family or becoming displaced. But that doesn’t limit their potential!
Project highlights in 2025:Some of our tutors are themselves survivors of war and displacement. They do more than teach: they bring hope, encouragement, and stability. Some tutors accept a stipend, less than 50% of what they could charge, and in this way they support children while also coping with the high cost of living.
Liudmyla, one of our tutors, moved to Lviv from Kherson; her son is currently defending Ukraine in the east. She is pictured with Veronika, a calm and determined young girl who came from Sumy. Liudmyla has been working in the Volunteer Tutoring project for a year, teaching six children and providing not only knowledge but also vital emotional support. With Liudmila's steady guidance, Veronika is discovering her potential.
Volunteer tutoring is also a space for tutors to grow...
“Volunteer tutors are true heroes. Despite war and displacement, our tutors continue to teach and inspire. They prove that our spirit cannot be broken and we can help even in the most difficult times. Our project offers training, international exchanges and volunteer camps – in this way we help them to keep doing what they love, develop skills, and be part of a supportive community,” says project coordinator Yuliia Brynskikh.
Our work shows that even in wartime, children can find stability, learning, and hope. We are grateful to our donors in Germany whose support makes this possible. Your help is more than financial—it is an investment in children’s futures, their confidence, and their belief in themselves.
With donations we can reach more children who are on our waiting list... 40 € can give a child eight tutoring hours with a volunteer teacher. Please donate if you can!
Together, we are ready for the new school year, standing with children where they need us most.
