War affects children and young people in Ukraine, our Sponsorship is a great way to protect them through the humanitarian and economic crisis. For a family, the crisis can mean that one day you have a job, and the next day you lose it without any compensation. Sponsors give children security, help through the crisis, and hope for a better independent life. If you would would like to sponsor a child, we would love to hear from you.
Sisters Angela and Liza live with their 86-year-old grandmother who has Alzheimer's as both of their parents died 10 years ago. We started working with Angela, the younger sister, four years ago when she was 15. We linked her with a mentor and then gave monthly financial sponsorship which helped with educational needs and food.
When the war started, Angela’s older sister Liza who is 23 lost her job, so the family had only one source of income - a meagre pension from their grandmother. For three months, we increased financial support, so they had their basic needs covered. In this time we looked for ways for the family to be able to help themselves.
We found a solution: we paid for manicure courses for Liza and gave her a small stipend to purchase the materials needed to set up independently. Now Lisa is working for herself as a manicurist. Angela, with the help of our mentor, got a well-paid job in a small sewing company. We are happy to see that our timely financial support and mentoring helped them to be secure and find work in such unpredictable times.
The Tyman family, who we sponsored since 2016, has moved to Germany where their 13th child was born. After Russia bombed the maternity hospital in Mariupol, they were scared to give birth in Ukraine. The parents decided that for the sake of their children it is better to stay in Germany this year.
This large family with traditional values always wanted to give their children opportunities to learn, but money was very limited and the children walked a long way to school. When the war started the father lost his job, so we increased our financial support to protect the children. Sponsorship helped them to get by when they first moved to Germany.
“We are incredibly grateful to Care in Action for supporting our family in the toughest months of our life. They gave us hope where we didn’t see even a ray of light.” - Vitaliy Tyman, father
The children are preparing to go to school. They learn German and visit different activities, such as music, Ukrainian clubs, and sports. The father is looking for a job and they have state support as refugees. This means they can live independently and we can look after another vulnerable family in Ukraine.
“We want to express our gratitude to all sponsors of our children and to the NGO “Care in Action” for their constant presence in our family life. I and my wife Natalia cannot imagine what we would do without your support. It may seem to you that 30 Euros are not much, but for us and our children that was a chance to have extra skills and knowledge in different fields. I hope that in the future that will help my children to be better professionals in their chosen work, and that one day they can sponsor other children in need.
“Thank you for your support, we will always remember your kindness! Sincerely, Tyman family”
