Our aid is getting to refugees in war zones

Care in Action continues to use its network within Ukraine to supply large quantities of humanitarian aid to families and refugee shelters in Lviv and into the war-torn areas to the East.  Working with our public and NGO partners, we are expanding to provide increasing levels of assistance to the most vulnerable.

This includes:

  • Supplying 4 fully loaded vehicles of much needed aid, including food, bedding, clothes and hygiene products to 122 disabled children, who had travelled 800 km from Zaporizhzhya (near Donetsk) to escape the fighting.
  • Delivering camping mats and sleeping bags, medicines, diapers, and food for adults and babies to 155 families in Busk and Olesko.
  • Sending and distributing packages of food, hygiene products like soap and diapers, and sleeping bags to for 30 foster families and “Family Style Orphanages” for use for themselves and newly arrived children.
  • Supplying our local hospital with water, toilet paper, towels and socks in large quantities, along with medicines.
  • Giving food parcels, baby food and diapers to individual families who have arrived from Mariupol, Kharkiv and other war zones.

With our partners, we can reach so many more people than we could on our own. We have teamed up with a local charity in the heavily affected Dniepro region and are helping them support over 100 foster families, who are running short on food.  The shops are now often empty in this area and we are grateful that we have been able to help meet this urgent need through the generous support of our donors.

Children are always at the heart of our mission at Care in Action, and our staff and trained volunteers are leading activities for children to play, make some art and forget about their worries for a while. For instance, on 13 March some of our team heard the explosion from the bombs that hit in the Lviv Region, but still went to two “Family Style Orphanages” in Busk to lead games with the children and we continue to lead regular activities at centres that care for children.  The years of investment in training volunteers in how to help traumatized children is a real strength in times like this. Volunteer Team Leaders help us achieve more than we could on our own.

Looking forward we are planning to help source and transport from Germany urgently needed medicines and equipment to help children with disabilities in Lviv.  The need for medical assistance is now critical and our team will use our network to supply and support in any way we can.

Refugees in the war zones are feeling your support. Our staff and volunteers are doing great work thanks to your donations! But we must continue to increase our efforts and effectiveness as the urgent demand for our services is growing day by day.

Children are at the heart of our mission. You can provide food, therapy and relief through your donations.
Telling your friends about our work and need for donations is another great way to help. Thank you!
