At our two-day School of Independent Living camp, young people who are in care or in “families in crisis” developed skills that many employers look for. These 21st Century Skills include public speaking, problem solving and emotional intelligence. An exciting line up of coaches and volunteers led workshops. In this article you can meet some of the people in Ukraine whose lives are better because of sponsorship: from Oksana who is inspired to help children because we helped her through a difficult time, to Nadia who needs help to achieve her dream to be a vet. 45 children in Ukraine and 22 children in Malawi benefit from Sponsorship with Care in Action.

A fun event to engage with Ukrainian art and culture was brought to 25 disadvantaged young people in Lviv, where the Veselovsky family showed their talents and got everyone involved in music, painting and making traditional Motanka dolls.

140 children and adults from 18 foster families came together for our two four-day Family Camps. There were specialised activities for every age group, bringing both learning and development and lots of fun! While staff and volunteers engaged the children with drama, health and safety and games, parents learned skills they need for fostering from Child Psychologists.

Our camp taught media literacy skills to 25 teenagers who are fostered or have difficult circumstances at home. Over two days the young people learned essential skills for our digital world: critical thinking, understanding information bubbles, and how to create own quality content. We want to thank our charismatic speakers, volunteers and donors for making this possible!

Children can’t learn well when they’re stressed and don't have a stable home. We start with a personal mentor, then when a child has a supportive role model in their life we can help with tutoring. This brings positive changes for children like Maria, and develops their potential so they can succeed in life.

Can international volunteers personally help a child in Ukraine during the pandemic? Absolutely! 12 young people in Germany helped 12 disadvantaged young people in Ukraine to improve their English conversation skills through weekly online tutoring. The next tutoring course will begin in September.

This year our expert journal went to 6,000 people who care for children in 22 regions of Ukraine. The central theme was The Power of the Family, and Ukrainian experts contributed articles to help foster families. Who is involved and how does this help? The first "School of Independent Life" event for teenagers took place! During the two day camp, 22 boys and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds learned more about the value of money and how to manage it wisely and carefully, as part of our STEP programme.
