In difficult times, children need support they can rely on. Our Individual Child Support program helps each child, regardless of their background, to unlock their potential through mentorship, tutoring, and sponsorship. Thanks to our team and donors, we see children thrive as they build trusting relationships, improve their education and start to succeed in life. The program continues to grow across Ukraine.
At Care in Action we have a plan for the year which shifts from shelter, which was the major focus of 2022, to providing more services for children and youth that will protect their development which is interrupted by war.
In this time of war and school interruptions we are bringing children joy, activities and holistic development. Our trained volunteers go to children’s care homes, crisis centres and temporary shelters to offer a variety of fun and educational activities. And in rural areas we sponsor weekly dance, volleyball and kickboxing activities for children.
Care in Action is helping children in Ukraine through the winter with aid, generators, lights and warm clothes. Here is the story of one foster family who received a generator after leaving a war zone to rebuild their life. You can help with our latest project to buy warm pyjamas and thermal underwear for children who are cold at night.
Merry Christmas! We want to share some of the happiness with you from people who we help. Here are some updates, photos and news of aid delivered to protect children in winter.
Since the war began we have helped people who fled their homes, giving comprehensive support in Lviv. In the first 7 months we provided these displaced people with 20,542 beds in hostels, and also provided housing to 40 women and children at a time in our "Care Center" and large family house. They tell their stories of escape, adjusting and finding security.
As school reopens we are making sure that the most vulnerable children have the school supplies they need. 157 children had their needs assessed and were supplied with stationery, school bags and shoes so they are off to a good start. We are showing children that their education, their future, is important.
Our Creative Hub for children’s education and development has run for three months, serving children and young people from Lviv and those who left their homes in the war. 22 young people completed our IT Training course. The reactions from mothers of children from different corners of Ukraine are so heart-warming, don’t miss reading them!
Over the summer 81 young people from East and West Ukraine joined our two STEP Life Skills Camps: a two-day camp focused on building a career, and at a three-day camp they took on the challenge of scaling Hoverla, the highest peak in the Carpathian Mountains. Both camps strengthened young people’s skills to succeed in life. There was an enthusiastic response!
Angela's sister has started her own manicure business, and the Tyman family are safe in Germany. Their father says “We are incredibly grateful to Care in Action sponsors for supporting our family in the toughest months of our life. They gave us hope where we didn’t see even a ray of light.” We can now sponsor new children in Ukraine and help them towards independence.
