Tax exemption notice

The protection of your privacy when processing personal data is an important concern for us. This policy outlines how we securely use and protect data to deliver our website, newsletter and services.

In some cases, we need your name and address as well as further information in order to be able to offer you a service, such as a donation receipt, child sponsorship or an opportunity to volunteer.

In the event that we send you information or answer your enquiries, we only store data that you have voluntarily provided to us. More information about how we securely manage our newsletter subscription with MailChimp is included below.

Security

We have taken technical and administrative security measures to protect your personal data against loss, destruction, manipulation and unauthorized access. All our employees as well as service providers working for us are obliged to comply with the applicable data protection laws.

Whenever we collect and process personal data, it is encrypted before it is transferred.  This means that your data cannot be misused by third parties.

Data on our website

By default, when you visit our website, our web servers store the IP of your Internet service provider, the website from which you visit us, the websites you visit with us, and the date and duration of your visit. This information is absolutely necessary for the technical transmission of the websites and the secure server operation. A personalized evaluation of this data does not take place.

If you send us data via the contact form, this data will be stored on our servers during the data backup process. We will only use your data to process your request. Your data will be kept strictly confidential. It will not be passed on to third parties.

We include clearly defined options where you can choose to navigate to other websites. Our website has links to our Care in Action Facebook and Instagram accounts via the relevant logos. Sometimes we offer a link to the Betterplace.de website. You should make sure when you leave our site that you have read and understood any new site’s privacy policy.

Affected Rights

You have at any time a right to access, rectify, delete or restrict the processing of your stored data, a right of objection to the processing as well as a right to data portability and to appeal in accordance with the requirements of data protection law.

Right to information:

You can ask us for information on whether and to what extent we process your data.

Right to correction:

If we process your data that is incomplete or inaccurate, you can request that it be corrected or completed by us at any time.

Right to erasure:

You may request the deletion of your data if we process it unlawfully or if the processing disproportionately interferes with your legitimate protection interests. Please note that there may be reasons to prevent immediate deletion, e.B. in the case of statutory retention obligations.

Irrespective of the exercise of your right to deletion, we will immediately and completely delete your data, unless there is any legal or legal obligation to retain them in this regard.

In the event of technical feasibility, you may request a direct transfer of your data to another controller.

Right to object:

If we process your data for legitimate reasons, you can object to this data processing at any time; this would also apply to profiling based on these provisions. We will no longer process your data unless we can prove compelling legitimate grounds for processing that outweigh your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves to assert, exercise or defend legal claims. You can object to the processing of your data for the purpose of direct marketing at any time without giving reasons.

Right to appeal:

If you believe that we are in breach of German or European data protection law when processing your data, please contact us in order to clarify any questions. Of course, you also have the right to contact the supervisory authority responsible for you, the relevant State Office for Data Protection Supervision.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to change our privacy policies if necessary due to new technologies. Please make sure you have the latest version. If fundamental changes are made to this Privacy Policy, we will make them known on our website.

Payment provider

PayPal

On our website we offer payment via PayPal. The provider of this payment service is PayPal (Europe) S.A.R.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg (hereinafter "PayPal").

If you select the payment via PayPal, the payment details you enter will be transmitted to PayPal.

The transmission of your data to PayPal is based on Article 6(1) lit. a GDPR (consent) and Art. 6 sec. 1 lit.b GDPR (processing for the performance of a contract). You have the option to revoke your consent to data processing at any time. Revocation does not affect the effectiveness of past data processing operations.

Analytics cookies

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how our website is used and correct any useage issues. We do not use any Google Advertising products.

Google Analytics mainly uses first-party cookies to report on visitor (aka. user) interactions on Google Analytics customers’ websites. Users may disable cookies or delete any individual cookie. 

Google Analytics supports an optional browser add-on that - once installed and enabled - disables measurement by Google Analytics for any site a user visits. Note that this add-on only disables Google Analytics measurement.

Google Analytics also collects Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to provide and protect the security of the service, and to give website owners a sense of which country, state, or city in the world their users come from (also known as "IP geolocation"). Google Analytics provides a method to mask IPs that are collected (detailed below) but note that website owners have access to their users’ IP addresses even if the website owners do not use Google Analytics.

Plugins and tools

Google Forms

The forms on our website are Google Forms. Google Workspace and Cloud Identity offer the Data Processing Amendment (DPA) and model contract clauses (MCCs) as a means of meeting the adequacy and security requirements of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (the "GDPR"). If you send us data via a form on our website, this data will be stored on our servers during the data backup process.

If our website forms include a survey with the purpose of sharing of non-personal, anonymous data with third parties, this purpose will be clearly stated.

Sign up for our newsletter via MailChimp

To receive the newsletter offered on our website, you can register via our form. We use the data you choose to give us (name and email) exclusively for sending the newsletter, which may contain information or appeals.

We use MailChimp to send out our newsletter, and to securely store contact details. MailChimp was carefully selected to meet the requirements of GDPR. You can revoke your consent to the storage and use of data for sending the newsletter at any time, for example via the unsubscribe link in the newsletter.

Protection against hacker attacks by Heroku

Our website uses built-in security which is kept up to date by Heroku.

YouTube

Our website uses plugins from the YouTube website. The site is operated by YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA.

As soon as you start a YouTube video on our website, a connection to the youtube servers is established. The YouTube server will be informed which of our pages you have visited. If you are logged into your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to associate your browsing behavior directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.

Furthermore, youTube can store various cookies on your device after starting a video. With the help of these cookies, YouTube can obtain information about visitors to our website. This information is used, among other things, to collect video statistics, improve usability and prevent fraud. The cookies remain on your device until you delete them.

If necessary, after starting a YouTube video, further data processing operations may be triggered, over which we have no influence.

The use of YouTube is in the interest of an appealing presentation of our online offers. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Article 6 (1) lit. f GDPR.

Google Web Fonts

This page uses web fonts provided by Google to provide uniform appearance of fonts. When you visit a page, your browser loads the required web fonts into their browser cache to display text and fonts correctly.

For this purpose, the browser you are using must connect to Google's servers. This will make Google aware that our website has been accessed via your IP address. The use of Google Web Fonts is in the interest of a uniform and appealing presentation of our online offers. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Article 6 (1) lit. f GDPR.
