English camp “Time To”

Print

Is it time to get ready for the winter? Or is it time to be yourself and follow your dreams? Of course, it is. But not only that…

The two-day English camp “Time To” organized by Care in Action for family style orphanages and foster families of Lviv and Lviv region took place on the weekend following the European Day of Languages. Its 75 participants were able to dive into the atmosphere where it’s high time to get down to English!

All, kids, teens and their parents were able to practice their English skills during the interactive activities, multicultural eve and public speeches. Besides English learning activities, the parents had a workshop by the psychologist Olena Petrushkevych where they were trying to understand the children’s motivation for learning and how they can help to boost it.

For the multicultural eve each out of 5 age groups came up with a bright idea: video presentations with acting and interviews, dancing in national clothes, quiz… While teenagers were putting on serious roles of the queen, Sherlock and Watson or the Beatles their parents let themselves dance to a rousing children’s song.

The speakers of the camp were talking about the importance of English in the modern world and in their own lives. Many thanks for sharing their knowledge and their stories to British Fred Luzanycia who has rich experience of teaching in 5 different countries and currently works at the Munich International School, English philologist Khrystyna Geleta, a student from Denmark Trine Hyldgaard and other speakers.

The main aim of the camp was to inspire the parents and the children to master this wonderful language that opens us to the world and opens the whole worlds to us.

Here is what the parents say:

“Dear Care in Action team and volunteers, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the organized camp. Strengthening our motivation by personal experience of each of you and of the invited guests is something very special”, – Maria, foster mother.

“It was useful. We found out about the effective ways to learn English, realized that it is vital for a modern person and that it is not as difficult as it seemed to us before”, – Igor and Viktoria, foster parents

“The children enjoyed the camp. The children are using the words learned there talking to ach other at home. Two of them want to learn it. We are going to look for tutors”, – Andriy and Nadiya, parents-educators.

We express our sincere gratitude to all the sponsors who supported the camp, foreign guests and our volunteers who helped a lot with the preparation and implementation of the program, the participating families for being active and eager to learn more English and to the Basilian Institute of Philology and Theology for a great venue for the camp!
